No Slip Charlie Gloves -Get A Grip On Your Wet Baby!

Being a new mom is an exciting yet scary time in a young woman's life. The assistance of an experienced mom or grandmother is always welcomed. Especially when it comes to things like bathing the baby for the first time. I remember my entire body was shaking the first time I bathed my first born. I thought for sure I was going to get the water too cool or too warm, or worse yet, that I would drop her slipperly little body when taking her in or out of the baby bath, or while turning her over to wash her back side.

Many, if not all, new moms face this fear, but Kim Shulman did something about it. She created the 'No Slip Charlie' gloves that allow you to safely Grip your wet, soapy, slippery baby, yet they still leave your fingers free to thoroughly the clean baby. Kim sent a pair of her No Slip Charlies to Whitney, one of our mommies, to test with her new baby boy. Here is what she thought about the No Slip Charlie Gloves.

Whitney, Mother of two:

I received a Pink pair of “No Slip Charlie” glove
s. To be honest, when I first saw these gloves I thought they were a bit silly looking. They are very brightly colored pink striped, fingerless gloves made of a bathing suit-like stretchy material. They also included a terry cloth mitt that attaches to either glove with a small velcro patch on the backside of the glove. The fabric is very smooth so I wondered how it was going to "grip” my son and keep him from being so slippery. Then I remembered back to when I would try to take my wet swimsuit off and it would really stick to my skin. So I thought I'd better give these a shot.

Due to our schedules, I usually take my kids in the shower with me in the morning. So the next morning I put on my “No Slip Charlie” gloves and picked up my infant son and stepped into the shower. I was amazed at the grip I had on him. The material stuck to him and I felt pretty secure holding him, and not at all nervous at about him slipping out of my hands. I put the terrycloth mitt on my fingertips and soaped him up. The mitt made it much easier to get into all those nooks and crannies. I noticed that the terry cloth mitt did tend to creep off my hand when it got really wet but it didn't go far because it stayed attached to the Velcro patch sewn into the back of the glove.

I wish I would have had these gloves when my daughter was a new baby so I would have felt more confident while bathing her. All in all I would definitely recommend the “No Slip Charlie” gloves to any mother who would like a little extra security while bathing her new baby.

One user tip: Due to the grip the material has on your skin, be sure to put the gloves on while they are still dry.

No Slip Charlie Gloves come in two colors: Pink Stripes & Blue Stripes and make a thoughtful gift for any new mother. They are 'Mom Approved' and have have received the 'Seal of Approval from The New Parents Guide', as well as the BloggerMommies -Two Thumbs Up!

Kim would love to Give one of our Lucky Readers a pair of No Slip Charlie Gloves. If you or someone you know has a new baby now, or one on the way, then be sure to Enter to Win a Pair of No Slip Charlie gloves!

Softbums Cloth Diapers with PerfectFit Sizing Technology

I am a cloth diapering mama from way back in the days of folded-your-own cloth, plastic pants & safety pins. Boy have cloth diapers come a long way! As an avid cloth diaper advocate and a baby store owner, I always have moms ask me which is the best cloth diaper on the market. Because I have the unique opportunity of seeing all of the new cloth diapers on the market I can usually steer them in the right direction based on their personal needs, but it really comes down to which diaper they use and like best.

There are so many varieties available these days that it can make your head spin. You don't want to make a wrong decision because they aren't cheap! I usually suggest that new moms ask their friends about their experiences & suggestions on which cloth diaper they prefer. If they are the first of their friends to have babies (or the first to use cloth diapers) then the best choice is to purchase one diaper from several manufacturers and try them all out. When you figure out which one you like best then invest in a bunch of them. And it is an investment because the beauty of cloth diapers is that you don't have to throw them out when your child is potty trained, you just put them away for your next child.

Recently I got the opportunity to try out an all new All-in-one (AIO) diaper with my grandson. Now I am thinking that my advice for new moms will have to be, "Try the Softbums Perfect Fit Diapers. I Love Them!"
There are so many unique features to this diaper that I don't even know where to begin or which one would be the best feature. Since my daughter, and other young moms, all seem to tell me that they hate the extra laundry produced from using cloth diapers, I will start there. The Softbums diapers have a reusable cover! You can change a wet diaper 2-6 times using the same cover, just air it out between diaper changes. That is quite simply done by rotating 2 or 3 covers throughout the day. This means that the only laundry produced in 2-6 diaper changes are the inserts, therefore resulting in much less laundry then if you used another AIO and had to wash the cover with every diaper change.

A second wonderful feature is the Patent Pending Snugger for complete adjust-ability in sizes. With other AIO's that I have used they have snaps that you use to make them small enough to fit a newborn, but that puts all of the bulk of the cover in the front of baby...making it look bigger than the baby. With the Softbums device you easily set the perfect size for your baby, from newborn to toddler size. The gathering caused by making the diaper 'newborn-tiny' is evenly dispersed throughout the leg length of the diaper cover so the diaper looks so tiny and adorable. Then, as your baby grows you just release small amounts of length to always have a perfect fit. The elastic gathering in the leg openings also makes for a snug fitting leg opening, no matter what size your baby is. That is really important for solids containment!

Another feature that I love about the Softbums diaper is the Snap-In inserts. I don't like the 'duck-butt' that some other AIO diapers tend to have from the inserts being so bulky in one area. The Softbums come with extra long Snap-in inserts that are attached with a single, smooth-headed snap at the upper back inside of the diaper. You then lay the insert in the cover and it is way too long so you fold it back over and it puts a double layer of absorbency in the front & between the legs where you need it most. Because it is snapped in it also tends to stay in place.

There are other minor features that I really like but the final one is the price. You may say to yourself, "Price? Anna what are you talking about, the Soft Bums are $33.92 compared to about $18.95 for other AIO's?" Yes, the All-In-2's may seem pricier, but lets break it down in a diaper-change per diaper-change comparison.

A typical AIO will cost about $18.95, but that is a single diaper change. The cover and inserts/liners have to be washed after every use. With the Softbums diaper you can reuse the cover 2-6 times. Let say you use a cover once with each of the 3 inserts that it comes with -that would be only $11.33 per diaper change! And that does not even take into account that you will have less laundry time & cost.

Sarah, Owner of Softbums, would like to give one Organic Bamboo Velour All-In-Two Basic Pack (1 cover, 3 OBV inserts) Plus a Bamboo Doubler to one of our Lucky Readers from Anywhere in the World!

Comfy Easy PC System - Designed with Toddlers in Mind

The computer has become a permanent fixture in households everywhere. With the school aged kids competing with their parents for computer time, many families have resorted to multiple computers in their homes. But now there is a new kid on the block that has Toddlers wanting their share of computer time!

The Easy PC by Comfy, Inc is a computer designed with toddlers in mind. It's it's like a Playstation for a pre-school child! It allows very young children to enjoy and learn from various activities, without requiring reading skills or the ability to use a computer mouse. The Easy PC System includes a Keyboard Unit that connects to your computer via a USB plug. Then you just pop the Easy PC Software into your computer and set your keyboard aside. The Easy PC enables children to use a computer, safely and easily, with a special keyboard that is designed for their small hands, and special software programs that have phenomenal educational and play value.

Four of our 'Mommies' had the exciting opportunity of testing the Easy PC with their children. Since the Easy PC does not work on a MAC, two of our reviews are from Alternate Guest Reviewers who help us out sometimes.

I will get right to the reviews, in no certain order...here is what our 'Mommies' thought of the Easy PC by Comfy, Inc.

BloggerMommy Jennifer, mother of 3:

My Family and I were recently given a chance to review The Comfy Easy PC and after just one hour, we were addicted!

The Easy PC is a keyboard system that easily hooks onto your computer with a USB cable. The set up is super easy and is ready to go in just minutes. The keyboard has 20 very colorful buttons, a rolling bar and a telephone receiver. The buttons consist of of a sun, moon, cloud, animals, music instruments and colors.

My four year old daughter 'G' was very excited to see what each button would do. The Easy PC comes with a CD called "First Step" which teaches children the basics like, shapes, colors, etc. It also has additional software that can be purchased. We have tried "Animal World", "Joy of Music", "Adventure in Numberland" and many more which were all FANTASTIC!! The additional games come with a plastic layover that goes over the middle and is compatible with activities of that game. The games come in two different groups. Beginner for ages 1-3 and Advanced for ages 4-6. Each group has three levels of difficulty. I feel that they are very age appropriate. You can also choose from several languages on each game which is great for bilingual children or those who just want to learn a new language.

Since the Easy PC has been in my home, MY computer time has been pretty much non-existent. My daughter 'G', age 5, is the one who plays with it the most but her eight year old brother 'M' enjoys watching and helping her when she needs it. We also introduced it to our 8 month old daughter 'B'. She mostly banged on the keyboard but was very interested in watching the screen and listening to the music. I am sure that in a few months, she with be fighting over the Easy PC with her sister and we will have to purchase an additional one.

My daughter 'G' especially loves the Comfy characters. Her favorite is "Buddy" the bear. She talks about him all of the time, even in preschool.

I highly recommend the Easy PC to parents or caregivers of older babies and toddlers!
This is a GREAT learning tool. There are so many activities to choose from and each one helps with the child's motor and cognitive skills. They also reinforce music, shapes and colors. Not only are the children playing and having fun but they are learning while they do so and I absolutely love that! I also love that by using the Easy PC, my computer stays safe from being ruined.

I do think that there should be more software titles to choose from especially if you have a child like mine who is constantly playing it. I also think that they should come out with a system that is also compatible with MAC. The system itself is priced just right but I would like to see the additional software priced slightly lower.

I definitely think that is a must have and give it a BIG thumbs up!

Guest Reviewer Shannon, mother of two:
Let’s face it; very young kids and computers do not mix. Mine, ages 18 months and 3 years, just get near the computer and bad things happen. Food particles have been wedged into my keyboard, jelly fingerprints mysteriously appear on my monitor and once I saw Gavin, age 3, try to use the CD drive as a chocolate milk holder. After Gavin got old enough to figure out how to use the computer, more troubling things happened: my quote key occasionally sticks ‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’ – see, and the toolbar in Microsoft Word just disappeared, arghhh. The point is…computers and kids don’t mix. And of course, because I am always using mine, my kids can’t stand not being able to use one too.
But the people at Comfy were brilliant enough to figure out how to make my home computer available to my kids. The Comfy Easy PC was exactly what its name implies – easy. It is a colorful keyboard that plugs into the USB port on your home computer. After just a few minutes of installation the Easy PC was up and running and my kids were happily watching as each button they pushed changed to different characters, colorful scenarios and silly songs. The Easy PC also has a phone and a roller toy that is fun for them to play with.
At first, I was hesitant to like this product, mostly because the characters on the software seemed a little strange and Ava, age 18 months, was constantly throwing the phone on the floor. But eventually Ava learned not the throw the phone and the characters no longer seemed strange because I realized just how much my children loved, loved, loved playing with the Easy PC. It is the first thing they want to do when they wake up and I have to drag them away from it when computer time is over.
The Easy PC is designed for kids between 1 and 5 and my two just love it. Ava wakes up in the morning and walks right to the computer, hoping to get a few moments of alone time with the Easy PC before her brother wakes up.
There are a few things, however, that are bothersome from my standpoint. The first thing is the phone. It isn’t attached and it took about a week of me picking it up and putting it back on the keyboard before Ava and Gavin would actually use the phone and put it back instead of throwing it on the floor. Also, some of the software comes with plastic keyboard overlays to change the pictures on the buttons. Well the overlays don’t stick and my little ones like to throw that on the floor too. I even tried to tape the overlays on, but that didn’t seem to work either. After playing with it for a week, Gavin leaves the overlay on, but Ava still occasionally throws it on the floor.
The characters have strange voices and some of the songs were annoying, but I kept telling myself, if my children don’t notice, then I shouldn’t worry about it.

The Easy PC sells for around $70 and comes with First Steps software, a beginner program that Gavin and Ava quickly mastered. Additional software is sold separately. We were fortunate enough to preview six software titles. By far, the kids’ favorite was Let’s Imagine and Baby TV, both were very interactive, very imaginative and the kids loved them. Gavin didn’t seem to like Joy of Music, but really seemed to enjoy World of Colors as he tries to help a dog named Jumpy find his bone. Adventure in Numberland was another one of Gavin’s favorites. Sadly, Birthday Party didn’t seem to work right. The music was too loud and too annoying for me to stand and we couldn’t hear what the characters were saying over the music no matter how loud we turned it up.
Overall, the Easy PC is something that will let your children into the world of computers and they will love it. And it will give your keyboard a break. I will leave with a quote from my son, “This is fun.’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’ “””””””””””

BloggerMommy Whitney, mother of 2:

My 2 ½ year old daughter 'S' loves the computer. Any chance she gets she is hitting keys and trying to play games with her daddy. We were so ecstatic to receive the Comfy Easy PC. Once we got it home we read through the instructions and tried out the very colorful informative and super cute keyboard with phone. 'S' was so excited to have her own game and we even let her play it on daddy’s computer (she loves that).

At first we thought it may be a little hard for her so we started with level one. She got it right away with hardly any instruction. One of her favorite things was pushing the color buttons and repeating the names of the colors as they popped up on the screen. There is also a part on the keyboard that shows different instruments and the sounds that each of them make as well as their names. I love that part because she dances and I feel like she is learning a greater appreciation for music as a whole. She loves the music because she loves dancing.

Another portion of the keyboard is the telephone. The telephone is unique because she really feels like she is interacting with the characters, although she gets shy when they say hello to her and she hands the phone off to us.

We are slowly advancing her to other levels and games as we would really like her to fully understand all she is learning before increasing the level. She has yet to get tired of playing. We now have to take turns using the computer and she is not happy about that. Now that she plays with the Comfy Easy PC system she has began to point out colors, asking us for yellow juice or pointing out green grass and even looking for the moon at night. Not only is this game fun for 'S', she is learning so much.

This game is also great for family time too as my ten month old son 'R' loves to watch as much as we do. I would defiantly recommend the Comfy Easy PC to others with young knowledge-seeking children as this game is not only fun but educational.

Guest Reviewer Terese, mother of 3:

From taking it out of the package, to play time the Easy PC is easy as pie! The ability to stick a disc into your computer, plug in a cord and a few clicks of the mouse are the ONLY skills required for the adult to set up this fun and exciting game for kids!

My 3 children ages 2, 4 & 7 all found hours of entertainment with the Easy PC. Vincent, my 2 year old was easily entertained by the sounds and colors and buttons, but also was learning to recognize what a color looks like and associate that to what saying the color sounded like and what an instrument looks like and associate that to what it sounds like and as most children he loved the phone! He also learned to follow directions which is a challenge in itself for a 2 year old! He also really enjoyed the stories that are played out by the characters.

Tatum, my 4 year old daughter love talking back and forth with the characters on Easy PC, and was constantly amazed that when she was told to color the flowers red, she knew what to do! What made the program so easy for her was the reading was not required to play this game, that is designed for kids ages 1-7! So as I got my 2 and 4 year old to play and see their reactions how easy it was for them, it made me even more anxious to see how well my 7 year old son Chris would do with it, thinking that it may be too easy for him.

As I did with my two younger children, I sat Chris down with the Easy PC and started to explain the games, and before I was even done talking, he was flying his way through the programs without my help, and although he did know exactly what to do when he was told to do it, HE LOVED IT! It was not too easy for him because it helped with increasing his listening skills and doing as he was told to do, as well as kept him thrilled knowing that he knew all the colors, numbers, instruments, etc. and did not have to ask for help!

I have one and only one thing I would recommend for the Easy PC, and that is that the phone should be corded! My kids kept running off with it! I would overall give Easy PC an A+ rating. It is definitely a game that children ages 1-7 can all take interest in and be entertained by. Easy PC only requires your computer monitor and speakers so your keyboard and mouse are safe, and adults can have peace of mind knowing that the children are learning useful things!

Well, there you have it...the honest opinions of 4 moms using the Comfy Easy PC with their children ages 8 months to 8 years old. They all highly recommend it, with their only real complaint being that they thought the phone should be corded. I spoke with RonCantor, President of Comfy, Inc, about the telephone and his explanation for not making the phone corded made total sense to me. He said that a corded phone in a household these days is pretty rare and they wanted the phone to look most like the one mom & dad use, but more importantly, having a cord would present a safety concern and Comfy is more concerned about your child's safety then a misplaced phone. As our mommies noted, the kids learned pretty quickly to put the phone back on the unit.

The Easy PC comes complete with the “First Steps” software title, so you can use it right out of the box without any additional purchases. A whole line of software is then available, each designed for a certain age and level, and based on a different topic, allowing you to choose software according to your child's level and interests.

Comfy, Inc has generously offered to give One of Our Lucky Readers an Easy PC unit plus one additional Software title of their choice! That is a $90.00 Value!!

If you would like to Enter to Win an Easy PC unit & 1 Additional Software Title for your child, then here is what you need to do...

Between Me and You - Keepsake Journals

A few days ago I received a spiral bound, hard cover book, about 6" by 6" square, from Winston Simmonds Jr of Sand Dune Publishing, LLC. The book is one in a series of about 15 versions, called "Between Me and You" . The one I received is titled "Between me and you GRANDMA. A few things I've been meaning to ask." At first glance I thought it was going to be sort of a like a diary that I (as the grandma) would write in, then give it to my grandchild. I love writing so that would be fine by me, but I thought, "hmm, not everyone is going to feel comfortable formulating their thoughts into something that would be worthy of giving to someone else as a gift." But then I realized that this book was actually like a 'guided journal' with questions that would stir your memories and help you put them in order.

As soon as I opened the journal I started reflecting on fond memories of my relationship with my great-grandmother who I loved so much and who shared so many stories of her lifetime with me when I was just a little girl. I felt sad about all the stories that I never got a chance to hear because she passed away while I was still very young. Then I began to think about how nice it would be to put MY stories in a journal for my granddaughter to have and for her to read one day so that we too could share that special bond. So I opened the journal with pen in hand.

I turned to the first page that said, "This book belongs to" (and contained a blank where I would insert my granddaughters name) "and was given to my grandmother" (and had another blank for inserting my name). The next page contained a very touching pre-written letter that said, "I am giving this book to you so that you will return it to me. You're so very special and this is my chance to learn a little more about who you WERE once upon a time and who you ARE right now. Please take some time to reflect on the questions inside and write as much or as little as you want. Please know that I will cherish it not because of what you write, but simply because you wrote."

This brought tears to my eyes...the thought that whatever I write in this book will be read by my granddaughter one day. How special that would be for both of us and what a wonderful Keepsake this book will be for her. It made me cry because I wished that I had a book like this filled with my great-grandmothers stories.

The book is divided into sections such as, When you were a kid; Your Youth; My Grandfather; You Then; You Now; and Other Stuff. Then each section has questions to stir your memories and help you know what to right. It isn't all mushy stuff either, it has questions like, "What were some of your favorite things to do as a child?" and "What kind of music did you like as a teen?" and "Tell my about the first time you met my grandfather." These questions easily help you think of what to write, then you just write the answers as if you are telling that person about the stories. I found it extremely easy to put my thoughts on paper. I also felt very happy while writing in the journal that would be given to my granddaughter who is now almost 3 years old, knowing that one day when she is a pre-teen she may read the stories, and probably again when she is a young mother and who knows, she may even read it again when she too is a grandmother.

Sorry for getting so melancholy over this review but I truly think this series of books are the most wonderful, beautiful, touching keepsake gift that you could ever give to someone you love. There are 15 different keepsake journals (including two in Spanish) that are available. I am going to order some of the 'Sister' books for my daughters and for my sister, as well as the 'Aunt' & 'Unlce' books for my daughter & son-in-law to give to my grandbabies, and I will have to get the 'Honey' book for my Sweetheart and the 'Mom' book for my daughters as well. At a price of just $14.95 each this is a very inexpensive book that will last longer and have more memories than any gift you could give.

Winston & Sand Dune Publishing have generously offered to give a "Between Me & You" book to one of our lucky readers ANYWHERE in the World! SproutBaby ~ As Healthy for Your Children as they are Good for the Earth!

Recently we had the great pleasure of reviewing Sprout Foods organic baby food by SproutBaby. Their baby foods are made with all certified organic ingredients. No artificial flavors, colors or preservatives, and they taste delicious...even to us adults!

The SproutBaby company was formed on the idea that, given enough information and access, parents would gladly choose products that are as healthy for their children as they are good for the earth, and they don't believe that parents should have to sacrifice wholesome options on account of accessibility or affordability. It is their goal to provide parents with healthy, eco-friendly, easily accessible products. And we feel they are doing a fabulous job of it!

Whitney received several samples of Sprout Foods Organic Baby Food for her son, here is what she thought...

My son is 9 months old and is sort of a picky eater already. We received several packets of Sprout Foods organic baby food and my initial thought was, "Hmm, a pouch with a zip closure?" I opened the pouch of Baked Sweet Potatoes & White Beans and fed it to my son for lunch. He absolutely Loved it!

As I was feeding him I noticed how wonderful having his food in a pouch was. I loved how the pouch would allow me to feed him on the go and with any utensil. With the baby food jars that I currently use, I sometimes have a problem with some utensils because they do not fit properly in the jar and I cannot get to the bottom, or around the upper edges. The pouches are also great because if he doesn't finish all of his food I can just zip it up and put it away. No frustration trying to find the lid and then trying to get it back on the jar. It is also a great space saver because they fit so nicely in the fridge compartments or in a basket in my cabinets.

My son was so eager to eat every bite of Sprouts Foods baby food, unlike his other baby food, so my mother and I just had to taste it and boy were we amazed...it was delicious, unlike regular baby food that makes you feel bad feeding it to them because it tastes terrible. After my son finished eating the last of the samples that Sprout Foods sent, I went back to feeding him his old baby food and to my surprise he refused to eat it. Since his favorite food was the Sweet Potatoes & White Beans I went to the grocery store and bought him some Sweet Potatoes baby food in a jar and he ate just 3 bites then he was done. When I fed him the Sprouts Organic Baby Food he would eat the entire thing and pretty quickly too.

The Sprout Foods Organic Baby Food is a bit pricier then what I am currently feeding him, but I loved that there are no added preservatives, plus when comparing the regular jar baby food to Sprout Foods Organic Baby Food I feel I am getting my moneys worth in nutrition, and convenience. I also loved the fact that with this small change in my baby's food, I am in turn helping the environment.

I would recommend this food to anyone! I am so very pleased with this food that I decided to switch my son over to the Sprout Foods Organic baby food exclusively. I placed an order for a 2 months supply on Wednesday and I was worried about what I was going to be able to get my son to eat until the order arrived, but that isn't a problem now because they arrived today, Friday!

I also learned that SproutBaby.com has a SproutBaby Club which is a customizable delivery program where you receive a monthly shipment of Sprout Foods organic baby food in quantities. When you sign up, you select the number of pouches of food you’d like each month in the recipes that your child enjoys, and they make sure you get your order of baby food on a monthly basis. That's good for your baby and the environment too. How cool is that? By joining the SproutBaby Club you also get discounts on the food too since you are buy in quantity.

SproutBaby.com isn't just a great place to order organic baby food, they also carry products from other Earth-Friendly manufacturers of baby products for Health Care, Bathing, Skin Care, Germs & Allergy, Gas & Colic Relief, and even Wipes.

The wonderful folks at SproutBaby have generously offered to give one of our Lucky Readers a $25.00 Gift Certificate for any of their products. They have also provided us with a special discount code so that
